GC-MS Systems

Hewlett-Packard 6890 GC -5973 MSD System

The newest of our GC-MS systems, the 5973 Mass Selective Detector is a quadrupole mass filter configured for electron impact ionization and has a mass range of 700 Da. The 6890 GC is equipped with Electronic Pressure Control, a split-splitless injector, and an Agilent 6890 series automatic liquid sampler. The 5973 is turbopumped enabling relatively rapid column changes. A selection of columns can be installed in the 6890, including HP-1, HP-5, HP-1701, HP-FFAP, Innowax, among others. Requests for column changes should be made at least a week in advance so all users can be accommodated. The 6890 is equipped with a liquid nitrogen valve for cooling the oven below ambient temperature. Equipped with an eight-sample autosampler.

Hewlett-Packard 5890II GC - 5972 MSD System

The 5972 is a quadrupole mass filter with a range of 550 Da and is also configured for electron impact ionization. The 5890 Series II GC has Electronic Pressure Control and split-splitless injector. We usually keep a HP-5MS column installed in this GC. A Hewlett-Packard 7673 autosampler with a 100 sample tray is available on this instrument for unattended long runs. This 5890 is equipped with a liquid nitrogen valve for cooling the oven below ambient temperature.

Hewlett-Packard GCD

The GCD is a 5890 Series II GC with a 5971 quadrupole MS on a single chassis. This instrument is most often connected to our Tekmar trap desorber autosampler and equipped with a 60-m thick film HP-5MS column for difficult separations. For this purpose, the split-splitless inlet is bypassed.

Hewlett Packard 7694 Headspace Autosampler

Designed to sample the headspace vapor over a liquid, this autosampler can be attached to any of the GC systems as needs arise. The 7694 is not limited to liquid samples; we have even monitored methane emissions from live termites using this device!
